We started renting a property from Mark & Kristy White, owners of Northwest Mountain Inc property management, August of 2020. The first day we moved in we started noticing signs of roaches. We contacted the owners who took weeks to finally send out someone who only put traps around the home. The exterminator told us they would be back again, but we have yet to see them and are still showing signs of roaches and other insects. This was the only maintance request sent in that was not ignored. Upon moving in, we also noticed a wet dog smell. After researching and seeing other signs in our home, we started to worry about mold. After this plus the roach problem, we realized both of these issues could be a result of the vacant unit next door. We peeked in the windows of the unit and noticed immediately it was filled with mold. We contacted the landlords who refused to send out anyone to test for mold. We live in the unit directly beside this vacant unit and also share a wall with it but we decided to let it go and hope for the best because we obviously would get no help from our landlords with this matter and code enforcement and the health department wouldn’t help either. A few weeks and more and more issues start to arise. We could not lock our locks when we leaving and were forced to leave our house unlocked anytime we left. This issue along with many others was sent to the landlord through email, voicemail, text, maintenance requests, and no word on any resolution. We decided we couldn’t risk leaving our home unlocked any longer and bought the supplies to fix this along with new weather stripping to hopefully help with our insect issue. Because we were unable to reach anyone with this matter, we chose to deduct the $63 of the repair from our rent. The remaining amount was still paid even with all the issues we were still dealing with. A few days after doing this, we noticed our baseboards were damp in a few areas and had a film over that appeared to be mold. We had also been noticing more mold signs and at this point, we had had enough. We filed a complaint with the BBB describing all the issues we had with our home and how our landlords were doing nothing about it. We then received a very nasty call from Kristy the following day followed by an eviction. We are now risking eviction over the $63 we deducted to repair an issue they ignored for over a month. They are retaliating by trying to evict us instead of giving us a habitable and safe home to live in. It should also be mentioned, we have a 3 year old and are pregnant with another. All the issues we’re having risk our safety and the safety of our little ones. Please do not rent from this company and save yourself time and hassle.
